Aubusson. Wool tapestry decorated with greenery, with a landscape animated by a waterfall giving it a beautiful depth, and birds in a rich frame. 18th century period. Doubled. Some wear, old restorations.
Greenery A Verdure is, in the language of tapestry, a wall hanging decorated with plants, trees, foliage, often in a waterfall-type landscape perspective, and sometimes enriched with exotic or fantastic animals. This type of tapestry was produced in the workshops of Flanders or in Aubusson over a long period since the 16th century. Even today, greenery embodies the Aubusson tapestry for many.
